AI System

An AI system is a machine-based system that is designed to operate with varying levels of autonomy, that may exhibit adaptiveness after deployment, and that, for explicit or implicit objectives, infers from the input it receives how to generate outputs – predictions, content, recommendations, or decisions – that can influence physical or virtual environments (legal definition, EU AI Act Art. 3(1) / OECD). The AI system is part of the computerized system and embeds the model (the AI); as a system or software, it is verified. It is distinct from the AI model (the AI itself) and from the overall computerized system, which is validated in the process.
